The parish is located in a semi-rural zone in the northern suburb of Lome the capital of Togo,

and consists of four groups totaling 6,000 parishioners strong. The pastoral care is led by two priests. The pastoral parish council is composed of lay people, and there are several associations and movements of ladies groups, youth groups, and widows. The parish has an Organization of Charity for Integral Development concerned with helping the deprived and disenfranchised equivalent to CARITAS.

The parish is a large work-in-progress and is very happy and excited to become friends in Christ with Our Lady of the Meadows.

2/5/2009: Letter acknowledging our Christmas Cards

1/9/2009 Togo Update, Fr. Kevin will set a new date for a Togo Committee meeting.

$583.00 was sent via wire transfer to our Sister Parish. Forty-two Christmas cards were sent from the parish office and several were sent individually.

Our Sister Parish, Blessed Anuarite, has received by wire transfer to their bank, the $731.00 that was saved by Our Lady of the Meadows over a few months out of the 10% of the tithe. The parish council president, Nukunu Kodjo Raphael, expressed their gratitude and said it would be used to help with the roof they are trying to complete by Christmas. Their parish priest, Pastor Aurelien Mienso-Benissan, has announced this gift to his parishioners at Sunday mass. They hope someday that Our Lady of the Meadows parishioners will be able to visit Togo.

We will continue to save for our Sister Parish and will be wiring them these savings periodically. The Peace and Justice committee will be sending a parcel of information regarding their committee soon, other committees are invited to do this as well.

The Peace & Justice Committee needs your help as we launch this important project, as there will be many aspects to explore and ideas to develop. We need the whole parish to get involved.

Our first Cultural Exchange, a traditional sweet treat:

1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 egg, beaten

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

 l/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup toasted sesame seeds*

Grease Cookie sheets

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

Mix together brown sugar and butter, beat until they are creamy. Stir in the egg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Add flour, baking powder, salt, and sesame seeds. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto the cookie sheets two inches apart. Bake for 15 minutes or until edges are brown.

*To toast sesame seeds put in pan on medium and stir constantly until you can smell them and they start to turn golden, remove from heat right away as they will burn easily.

Recipe doubled yields approximately 7 dozen cookies

Christmas Card Campaign 2008

Send Greetings to Togo

We would like everyone in our parish to send a Christmas Card to our Sister Parish in Togo. A picture of your family or yourself with a personal written greeting is encouraged so we can get acquainted with our Togo friends. Tell them something about your family, your church, our/your community.

Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee is Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in French if you would like to include that in your card.

Please mail by December 10th 2008 so it will have plenty of time to arrive by Christmas. Take to the post office and have it weighed, flats are very reasonable to send, and they will put the correct amount of postage on it (a regular size #10 envelope starts at $.94).

We want this to be a BIG success, so please send your cards to:!
